El Concilio-Council for the Spanish Speaking recently announced their 45th Annual Gala will take place on Friday, November 1, 2013 at the beautiful River Mill located at 1672 West Bowman Road, French Camp, CA starting at 5:30 PM. The Annual Gala Dinner and Dance brings together more than 300 guests of elected and appointed officials, Latino community leaders, executives from major companies, philanthropic leaders, and scholars to honor fellow community members and organizations for their outstanding support of our mission to improve the quality of life for all members of the Central Valley.
Since its founding in 1968, during the civil rights movement by five visionary leaders. Each year El Concilio has the distinguished pleasure of recognizing 4 outstanding individuals for not only their ability to overcome hardships but excel and give back to their communities. This year El Concilio will be honoring Carol J. Ornelas as Amiga of the Year for her diligent work to provide financial literacy and quality housing for the underserved families. Juan Ruvalcaba will be recognized as Amigo of the Year for his dedication to giving back to community through numerous projects.
Mr. Juan Ruvalcaba will be awarded the Amigo of the Year Award for his activities to help students get to college by raising scholarship dollars. Sr. Judy McDonnell and Madeleine (Lyn) Kirkconnell as Unsung Heroes of the Year for their volunteer work with the VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) program for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and other crimes. California State University Sacramento, Dr. Alex Gonzalez will be awarded the La Raza Award of the Year for the commitment to provide continuing education through the extended GED program.
