Monday, November 4th at 5:30 p.m., in front of the downtown City Centre movie theatre, the Downtown Stockton Alliance and Public Works will be recognizing The First 50 for their contribution to efforts to clean up Stockton through the WE CAN project.
The students of The First 50 created the WE CAN project in response to prolific litter in Stockton, California. Based on case studies suggesting that frequent litterers are more apt to use brightly colored trash cans, students pursued and secured support in partnership with the Stockton City Council and Public Works Department to paint 200 total trash receptacles in every park in Stockton.
The mission of The First 50 is to inspire, involve, and engage youth through mentoring to empower a generation to realize their full potential. Our vision is to cultivate an inspiring environment of opportunity and positive experience inviting innovative solutions to empower youth and communities. The First 50 consists of forty-two 9th-12th grade high school students.
