The San Joaquin Engineers Council is pleased to
announce Mr. Patrick Dell, P.E., G.E, as the recipient of the 2013
Engineer of the Year Award. Mr. Dell is currently a Principal and a
Senior Geotechnical Engineer with Neil O. Anderson and Associates in Lodi,
California. He graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in
1981 with BS in Civil Engineering. He completed his graduate studies at CSU
Sacramento in Geotechnical Engineering. Mr. Dell received his Professional
Engineer’s license in 1987 and his Geotechnical Engineer’s license in 1993. He
has been involved with many levee improvement projects in and around Stockton
such as Brookside, Weston Ranch, Bishop Tract, and several Delta Islands.
Mr. Dell was Resident Engineer during the reconstruction of over 40 miles of
levees in Stockton from 1995 to 2000. He is currently the Deputy Program
Manager for a $112 Million dollar project with DWR evaluating nearly 700 miles
of levees along the San Joaquin River and major tributaries from Lodi to Fresno.
He began his professional career in Sacramento with a small geotechnical
engineering company, Laver L. Roper & Associates (LRA), in 1981. In 1986
Mr. Dell left LRA to begin work for Kleinfelder in Stockton. While
at Kleinfelder, Mr. Dell worked as a Staff Engineer, Project Engineer, and
Senior Geotechnical Engineer, as well as Branch Manager of the Blackfoot, Idaho
office. In 2005 Mr. Dell left Kleinfelder to join his current assignment
with Neil O. Anderson and Associates in Lodi. During his career, Mr. Dell has
worked on a diverse range of projects around Northern California ranging from
single story residential homes to multi-story office buildings, small commercial
buildings to large warehouse and industrial buildings, schools and universities,
residential streets to highways, airports, and bridges.
Mr. Dell is active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where
he has served as Bishop of the Ripon Ward for 5 years and as a Counselor in a
bishopric for 4½ years. He has twice been a Scoutmaster , Assistant
Scoutmaster and has been involved in various capacities with the Boys
Scouts of America over the last 20 years. He has served on the Board
for the Central Valley Branch of ASCE for 5 years. He has held the appointment
of President of the Branch for one year, and has been a driving force behind
the Annual Golf Tournament held by the Central Valley Branch of ASCE to raise
funds for Scholarships. He has made several technical presentations over
the years to professional groups all over California and Utah.
Mr. Dell was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. He has been married
to his wife, Sandy, for nearly 35 years and they have 4 children and 8
grandchildren. He and his wife currently live in Manteca. He
enjoys spending time with his wife, camping, hiking, gardening, and spoiling his
grandchildren.
The award will be presented to Mr. Dell at the San Joaquin Engineers Council
Annual Engineer’s Banquet on February 21, 2013 in Grace Covell Hall at
the University of the Pacific. The banquet is held during
Engineer’s Week, a nation-wide event recognizing the works and contributions of
the engineering profession.
