Former Ivy League Star Signs with Thunder

Former First Team NCAA All-Ivy Leaguer Jack MacLellan becomes the team’s seventh player to sign with the Thunder for the 2014-15 season.

The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s New York Islanders and AHL’s Bridgeport Sound Tigers, sign forward Jack MacLellan for the 2014-15 season.

“He’s had a great college career at Brown and had a good spell last season with the Wheeling Nailers,” Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Rich Kromm said. “He has AHL experience and I expect him to be a good two-way forward for us. I’ve had good reports from those that have coached him and played with him and am looking forward to seeing how he can help our hockey club.”

MacLellan, 26, is a Brown University graduate, who played for the ECAC side from 2008 to 2012, amassing 121 games, 46 goals, 55 assists and 101 points. The forward was named to the NCAA ECAC All-Academic team in 2008-09, the Second All-Star Team in 2010-11 and 2011-12 and was also a member of the NCAA All-Ivy League First Team during his senior season while also serving as the team captain.

The Calgary, Alberta native signed as an undrafted free agent with the Nashville Predators in 2012, appearing with the teams’ AHL affiliate, the Milwaukee Admirals, for 35 games and their ECHL affiliate, the Cincinnati Cyclones, for 10 games.

Last season, the 5’11, 185 lb. forward began the season with the Wheeling Nailers, scoring 11 goals and adding 6 assists in 30 games, before heading overseas to England to play with the Dundee Stars. MacLellan played a total of 11 games, including two postseason contests in the EIHL.

“I’ve had a tough couple of seasons due to injuries but my goal this year is to prove to everyone that I can stay healthy and play at a high level,” MacLellan said. “I’m healthy now and have been working hard this summer to come prepared to camp. I’ve heard a lot about the city, the fans, and the arena after talking to a few guys and I’m very excited to be playing in Stockton.

MacLellan began his career in the AJHL with the Calgary Canucks in 2006-07. He would suit up with Thunder defenseman Brad Stebner the following year when the two played for the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
