Zoo fans and community members that were unable to participate in this year’s sold out “Zoo After Dark” programs are being given one last chance to enjoy Micke Grove Zoo after dark this summer. “S’more Zoo” is a one-time campfire themed program set to occur at Micke Grove Zoo on Saturday, August 23 from 7:00-9:00PM. Participants must purchase tickets online before Friday, August 22 at www.mgzoo.com in order to join in on the evening fun.

Unlike the monthly “Zoo After Dark” program, “S’more Zoo” is an informal event that allows visitors to flow through various activities at their leisure. Staff and docents will be providing talks on the Zoo’s busiest nighttime creatures: the bobcat and fossa, and introducing visitors to other nocturnal creatures like a Western screech owl and African pygmy hedgehog. Guests will also be regaled with captivating animal tales told by a roaring Duraflame Inc. fire as they make S’mores and enjoy other campfire themed treats. Games and crafts will be offered as well.

Additionally, the event allows individuals of all ages to join in on the fun. The event costs $8.00 for members of the Micke Grove Zoological Society and $12.00 for non-members, although children ages 2 and under are free. Tickets are available only while supplies last.

“This program brings together the best parts of a camping trip: creative activities, exciting wildlife, sounds of the night under a starry sky, hot cocoa, and marshmallow toasted S’mores all topped off with fireside storytelling.  For date night or the perfect family outing, it does not get any better than this,” commented Kristy Benner, Education Specialist for the Micke Grove Zoological Society.

Additional information and instructions can be found on the zoo website, www.mgzoo.com.

The Micke Grove Zoo Education Department is managed by the Micke Grove Zoological Society, a non-profit that provides support and services to Micke Grove Zoo. Micke Grove Zoo is open every day of the year except for Christmas from 10am-5pm with last admission allowed at 4:30pm. Regular zoo admission is $5 for guests 14 and older, $3 for children 3-13, and free for children under the age of 2. San Joaquin County parking fees apply. Please check www.mgzoo.com for additional details.
