Pacific Defeats New Mexico State In Final Las Vegas Match

The Pacific women's tennis team won a very tight 4-3 dual match against New Mexico State on Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The Tigers fell to 2-2, while New Mexico State dropped to 1-4.

"Overall it was a good weekend for the Tigers," said Pacific Head Coach Charlotte Scatliffe. " We accomplished both goals we had set for ourselves in winning two doubles points and two matches. We were right there against UNLV but came up just short. As a team and especially for the freshman, we gained great experience. We head back to Stockton with confidence and ready for two good tough practices before heading to Santa Barbara."

Juniors Hana Ritterova and Regina Suarez earned a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Cristina Saenz de Buruaga and Iveta Masarova won at No. 2 doubles to take the doubles point. The doubles point was crucial, as it became the deciding factor with the teams splitting six singles matches. Masarova, Ritterova and freshman Francis Dean all earned up singles victories.

Pacific is next in action at Westmont on Feb. 14.
