Red Cross and the Stockton Heat team up to help save lives

Free game ticket offered to all blood donors who come to give

Event date: 9/12/2018 - 9/29/2018 Export event

The American Red Cross and the Stockton Heat are teaming up to encourage individuals to roll up a sleeve to help patients in need by donating blood during the Heat’s 2018-2019 season.

From now through Sept. 29, the Stockton Heat invites the community to give blood at a participating Red Cross blood drive or donation center in San Joaquin or Stanislaus County. As a thank-you, all who come to donate blood will receive a voucher for two free tickets to the Heat home game on Sunday, Sept. 30, while supplies last*.

“The need for blood is constant and the Stockton Heat want to do our part by providing an incentive to those in our community who can help fulfill that need,” said Stockton Heat CEO Brian Petrovek. “Partnering with the Red Cross allows us to give back directly to our community by helping ensure that hospitals have blood products on the shelves.”

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood, including trauma patients, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. There is no substitute for blood, and volunteer donors are the only source.

“The Red Cross appreciates the support of the Stockton Heat and their partnership to help save lives,” said Kerry Morris, Donor Recruitment manager, Red Cross Northern California Blood Services Region. “We rely on the generosity of volunteer donors and this is a great opportunity for the community to rally together for our local team and patients in need.”

To schedule an appointment at a local blood drive in San Joaquin or Stanislaus County, download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit RedCrossBlood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). In addition, the following donation sites are participating:

How to donate blood

All blood types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age in most states (16 with parental consent where allowed by state law), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.

Blood and platelet donors can save time at their next donation by using RapidPass® to complete their pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, from a computer or mobile device. To get started and learn more, visit RedCrossBlood.org/RapidPass and follow the instructions on the site.
