SSJCPL’S Adult Literacy Program

Through a California Library Literacy Services grant, the Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library (SSJCPL) offers a FREE program for adults who want to learn how to read. Adult learners are matched with a volunteer tutor, and the pairs meet weekly at the library. Adult learners must be 18 years of age or older, and simply need to contact the Literacy Office at (209) 937-7778 to schedule an appointment.

The Adult Literacy Program also welcomes adults who wish to volunteer as tutors. Working one-on-one with an adult learner is almost as rewarding for the tutor as it is for the learner! Library staff provides all tutor training and resources, and offers continued support to the pairs throughout their time with the program. Adults interested in learning more about this volunteer opportunity should call the Literacy Office at (209) 937-7778.

The Adult Literacy Program is free and provided through a California Library Literacy Serivces grant from the State Library. The Literacy Office is located in the Cesar Chavez Central Library, located at 605 N. El Dorado Street in Stockton.  For more information, call (209) 937-7778.
