Thunder President Brian Sandy Moving Home

Brian Sandy has accepted a position with the Arena Football League’s Portland Thunder, moving him closer to his three children.

Thunder Owner Brad Rowbotham announced today that Brian Sandy will be leaving the Stockton Thunder to accept a position with the Portland Thunder of the Arena Football League in an effort to be closer to his young family.

“First off I’d like to thank Brian for all of his contributions to our team,” Rowbotham said. “Brian brought a lot of creative ideas to the team this last season and we will continue with those and build on them to make an unforgettable experience for our fans. Brian leaving to spend time with his three children is completely understandable. I’m sure if his kids resided in Stockton, Brian would be here for years to come.”

“After careful consideration, I have decided to accept a job back in Portland to be closer to my family,” Sandy said. “I loved being in Stockton, and have truly enjoyed the opportunity to get to know so many passionate Thunder hockey fans.”

Sandy joined the Thunder in Summer 2013 replacing former president Dan Chapman who accepted a position with the University of the Pacific. Under Sandy’s leadership, the Thunder renegotiated its lease with the City of Stockton, unveiled a multiyear Season Ticket Plan designed to give fans premium benefits, oversaw the affiliation agreement with the New York Islanders and was the brainchild behind the Rough & Ready Islanders and We Paint the Ice Night promotions.

“We accomplished a lot of new, creative ideas last year,” Rowbotham said. “I’m very happy with our core group in our office. At this time last year, there was a list of unknowns, this year we have a firm direction and a solid group of people. In hockey terms, last year we were skating in slush, but this year, we’re skating on fresh ice.”

The Thunder will begin their search for a new president effective immediately. Chief Financial Officer Bill Davidson will step in as the interim Team President.
