University of the Pacific Partners with RADD® to Support Sober Driving

The University of the Pacific officially joined forces with RADD® ‒ “The Entertainment Industry’s Voice for Road Safety”, in support of its efforts to prevent drunk driving.  University of the Pacific is the first of three participating Sacramento Region campuses that are hosting major events with RADD to keep drivers and passengers safe on the road.

University of the Pacific’s RADD Kick-Off event yesterday featured the RADD car staged on campus, surrounded by Pacific student volunteers who explained RADD’s mission and invite students to utilize the RADD Designated Driver Rewards Program.  Students received RADD Cards, which can be used by designated drivers at a wide variety of participating establishments.  Local bars and restaurants serving as RADD participating establishments, offer an array of perks for designated drivers such as free non-alcoholic drinks, free appetizers, and front of the line “VIP” privileges.

Erin Meluso, president of RADD states that, “Alcohol-involved crashes among young adults are a tragic, senseless waste because they are entirely preventable. With a little planning before going out - such as designating a sober driver or agreeing to take a cab home - lives can literally be saved.” RADD is 100% committed to supporting the growing efforts that colleges across California are making to assure that “Friends Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk….Do You?™”

The California DUI Awareness Project is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The statewide project is active on 19 participating college campuses with an impressive combined enrollment of 462,000 students and a mission to promote alcohol-free driving through RADD's Designated Driver Rewards Program. This program encourages the use of designated drivers, cabs and public transportation to help students avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.

The brightly wrapped RADD car, a 2012 Scion xB donated by Toyota Motor Sales USA, serves as a rolling billboard to promote sober driving on California highways.  At events hosted by partner campuses, the car acts as an “attention grabber” to draw students to RADD’s exhibit.

RADD Retail Rewards partners available near Pacific include: BJ’s Restaurant, Elephant Bar, El Torito Restaurant, La Palma Mexican Cuisine and Whirlows Tossed and Grilled. All partners will receive free listings on RADD cards, regional websites and campus directories connected with the program. Visit www.collegeisRADD.org for a complete list of RADD Rewards partners throughout California.
