SJEC 2019 Distinguished Service Award, Mrs. Jasmine Noriega Samano

The San Joaquin Engineers Council has selected Mrs. Jasmine Noriega Samano to receive the 2019 Distinguished Service Award. Presentation of the award will be at the Council's 52nd annual dinner meeting at the University of the Pacific's DeRosa Center, February 21, 2019.

The engineering profession is made up of individuals who apply science to the common purpose of life, and is defined as the “profession in which knowledge of mathematical and natural sciences, gained by study, experience, and practice, is applied with judgment to develop ways to utilize, economically, the materials and forces of nature for the benefit of humankind.”

Each year SJEC accepts nominations for the Engineering Profession Distinguished Service Award; these nominees are individuals who have given freely of their time and services for the benefit of the engineering profession and the community. This award is intended to recognize someone who has shown an exceptional dedication and passion through the engineering and allied professions without the expectation of financial reward.

Mrs. Jasmine Noriega Samano is a Transportation Engineer with the California Department of Transportation, District 10 Local Assistance. Mrs. Noriega graduated from the University of the Pacific in 2004. As an alumna of the University, Jasmine has represented the best of the University’s mission: to serve as a responsible leader in her career and her community. She has given freely of her time and resources and expertise serving as a steward of the engineering profession and the community by encouraging young students to become future engineers and scientists. Over the last twelve years she has volunteered and grown the MathCounts program in the San Joaquin Valley and has been a vivacious promoter and mentor to local youth in pursuing a college education. This program locally extends into several counties in northern California and is part of a nationally recognized mathematics platform.

Mrs. Noriega’s fundamental strong work ethic, contributions and passion for using her education to help the community are paramount and define this award. SJEC only hopes more professionals can strive to choose mentoring like Mrs. Noriega has. Thank you for this generous, kind and true dedication to community youth. We are honored to present Mrs. Noriega with this award.

The award will be presented to Mrs. Jasmine Noriega Samano at the San Joaquin Engineers Council Annual Engineer’s Banquet, starting at 5.30 pm on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the University Center on the University of the Pacific Campus in Stockton. The banquet is held during Engineer’s Week, a nation-wide event recognizing the works and contributions of the engineering profession.
