Emergency Food Bank Is Celebrating Its 50th Anniversary

Event date: 9/28/2018 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM Export event

The Emergency Food Bank of Stockton / San Joaquin (EFB) is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an open house on Friday, September 28, 2018 at the food bank, located at 7 W Scotts Ave in Stockton. This celebration is a FREE event, and will run from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The open house will include tours of the EFB campus, a recognition of donors, and light snacks.

For five decades, the Emergency Food Bank has worked to build a stronger community by providing healthy food, nutritional education, and most importantly hope to those in need in the San Joaquin County.

The Emergency Food Bank of Stockton / San Joaquin, founded in 1968, is the largest direct provider of packaged emergency food in the San Joaquin County. Last year alone, Emergency Food Bank (EFB) fed over 70,000 families, and provided more than 6 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, dairy products, whole grains and packaged foods free of charge to thousands of San Joaquin County residents. The Food Bank does this through its three main programs:

  • The EFB Pantry is open each weekday from 9 a.m. – noon excluding holidays.
  • The EFB Mobile Farmers Market delivers fresh produce to more than 60 community-based sites each month.
  • The EFB Pantry Partners provides community groups and churches with food products to host their own pantries.

“It’s an honor to be serving San Joaquin County now, and I know it has been honor to do so for the past 50 years,” said Rick Brewer, Chief Executive Officer. “Hunger and food insecurity are major issues, and we at the Emergency Food Bank are here to do our part in providing help and hope to people of our community when they need us. It’s great to know we have been able to provide that helping hand for so long.”

The Emergency Food Bank of Stockton/San Joaquin is a nonprofit agency whose mission is to build a stronger community by providing a safety net of healthy food, nutrition education, and hope to residents of San Joaquin County who find themselves in need. Emergency Food Bank serves low-income individuals and families who reside within San Joaquin County. The only requirement for someone to access EFB services is proof of residence.

In addition, EFB is well known for hosting the annual Run/Walk Against Hunger each Thanksgiving morning in downtown Stockton. This year’s event will be held on Nov. 22, beginning and ending at Banner Island ballpark.

EFB couldn’t have done it without the generosity of our many donors, supporters, and volunteers, so come enjoy for some cake and light hors d’oeuvres and help EFB celebrate 50 years of feeding hungry families and making a positive difference in our community!
