Gaudreau and USA Advance in World Championship

Calgary Flames’ all-star Johnny Gaudreau continues to dazzle in the IIHF World Championships. Gaudreau picked up an assist in the 3-2 win over David Rittich’s Czech Republic to advance to the semi finals. Rittich did not play in Thursday’s loss, but the net minder posted an impressive 1.96 GAA and a .905 SV% in three games played in the tournament.

Gaudreau is eighth in the tournament in scoring with nine points in eight games, good enough for third on USA heading into their semi-final matchup against Sweden on Saturday. Sweden captain and Flames forward, Mikael Backlund has also had a terrific tournament so far, registering six points in eight games.

On the other side of the bracket, newly named Flames Head Coach Bill Peters has led Team Canada to the other semi final, with a dramatic 5-4 win over Russia. Canada will face off with Swiss in Saturday’s other semi-final game.
