SJEC 2019 Engineer of the Year Award, Mr. Neil O. Anderson, PE-G
The San Joaquin Engineers Council is pleased to announce Mr. Neil O. Anderson, as the recipient of the 2019 Engineer of the Year Award.
The award is for meritorious and altruistic service to the engineering profession and to the community. The recipient of this award must have dedicated their professional knowledge and skills to the advancement of human welfare, lived and worked according to the highest standards of professional conduct; to have served with the honor and standing of their profession before personal advantage, and the public welfare above all other considerations.
Neil Anderson started his professional career by obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University in 1985. He had the opportunity of playing football at BYU during the glory years and became famous by association, since his locker was next to Steve Young of San Francisco 49’ers fame. During college he had the privilege of meeting and ultimately marrying the beautiful and talented Ruth Fellows. Over the years they became the proud parents of 6 children. After working several years for a geotechnical and environmental firm in Sacramento he returned to school and obtained his Master of Science degree in geotechnical engineering, which is a fancy way of referring to an opportunity to play in the dirt and get paid for it.
After several years he had the opportunity of starting his own firm in Stockton, CA which eventually located in Lodi. Neil is now currently a principal in the Lodi, California office of Terracon since the merger of Neil O. Anderson & Associates and Terracon in 2014. Neil has over 30 years’ experience in providing innovative and cost-effective engineering design solutions for major public-sector state, county and municipal agencies, including DSA, Caltrans and the US Army Corps of Engineers, and for private sector clients. Neil’s engineering experience and expertise encompasses geotechnical field exploration, soil mechanics, soils investigations and reports, laboratory materials and construction testing, earthwork, slope stability, geotechnical instrumentation, foundation design, retaining wall, earth retaining structures, and swimming pool shell structural design. More recently, Neil has been almost exclusively involved in the geotechnical instrumentation of large dams such as Folsom, Calaveras, and Oroville and has finally obtained his lifelong ambition of becoming a dam engineer.
The award will be presented to Mr. Neil O. Anderson at the San Joaquin Engineers Council Annual Engineer’s Banquet on February 21, 2019 at the DeRosa University Center at the University of the Pacific. The banquet is held during Engineer’s Week, a nation-wide event recognizing the works and contributions of the engineering profession.
