Stockton Pokémon Trading Card Game Player Triumphs at 2017 Pokémon Regional Championships

Sebastian Ledesma Takes Home 2nd Place and Earns Coveted Championship Points Toward Potential Invite to the 2017 Pokémon World Championships

After a weekend of head-to-head Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) battles, Sebastian Ledesma joins an elite group of competitors to earn a top spot at the 2017 Pokémon Regional Championships. Held in Anaheim, CA on February 18th and February 19th, thousands of supporters were in attendance as the Stockton-native clinched 2nd place in the TCG Senior Division.

Along with the coveted title and top finish, Sebastian also took home a portion of the $50,000 in prize money, scholarships, or Travel Certificate awarded at the event as well as valuable Championship Points that count toward a potential invite to the 2017 Pokémon World Champions in Anaheim, CA next August. The 2017 Pokémon Regional Championships kicks off a full slate of all-new competitive events designed to make it even easier for players across the globe to participate in the Play! Pokémon program. The Anaheim Pokémon Regional Championships is one of only 16 regional level tournaments taking place across North America this season and is an important step for players in a year-long journey to earn an invitation to the Pokémon World Championships.

“The Pokémon Regionals Championships provide a great opportunity for players of all ages to come together a compete in a game with competitors from all over the world,” said J.C. Each year, the Pokémon Organized Play tournament series draws hundreds of thousands of Pokémon players to compete at various local league events and sanctioned tournaments throughout North America. Players of all ages and skill levels in good standing are encouraged to participate in Play! Pokémon tournaments, including Premier Challenge and Midseason Showdown events new to the 2016-2017 season.
