A New Spring at the Oak Grove Nature Center
The Nature Center at Oak Grove Regional Park in Stockton will be
celebrating its 27th anniversary on Saturday, May 17 with activities
from 10 am – 4 pm.
It’s been 27 years since the Oak Grove Nature Center first opened
its doors to the community. Over these years, the Center’s staff
and volunteers have been introducing visitors of all ages to one of
the last remaining oak woodlands in San Joaquin County.
The celebration will begin with guided bird and nature walks
through the native plant garden and along the Yokuts nature trail.
You’ll learn about the plants and animals which inhabit the park as
you walk in the shade of century-old oaks. And for those who enjoy
getting an up-close view of wildlife, there will be live animal
presentations.
Inside the Nature Center you'll find our new live animal displays
and animal artifacts.
The public is invited to attend the dedication and blessing of
the new trail leading to the Miwok/Yokuts village. Come and stroll
through the native plant garden as you make your way to the grinding
rock and tule hut replicas. Learn how the native people used the
plants for food, medicine, and shelter. Then come back inside the
Nature Center to see our new collection of Native American
artifacts.
For all children and the young-at-heart, there will be face
painting and a craft activities table. Staff will be offering one of
their most popular activities; making your own casts of animal
tracks.
The celebration’s activities and tours will be free to the
public.
There is a park entry fee of $5 per vehicle. The Oak Grove Nature
Center is located in Oak Grove Regional Park adjacent to the park
entry kiosk. The park is located on Eight Mile Road just east of
Interstate 5 in Stockton. For more information, please call (209)
