This year - 2008 - marks the 16th Anniversary of the National
Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive. On Saturday, May
10, 2008, letter carriers across Stockton will be delivering both
mail and hope. The National Association of Letter Carriers, in
conjunction with the United States Postal Service, will be
collecting non-perishable food items like canned fruits and
vegetables, canned meats and fish, canned soup, juice, pasta,
cereal, and rice to help families in need in our community.
You can help by placing your food donation at your mailbox on May
10th before your letter carrier arrives. Your letter carrier will
take your donation to the Post Office where trucks from the
Emergency Food Bank will be waiting. Your donated food will arrive
at the food bank Saturday afternoon to be distributed to hungry
families in Stockton and San Joaquin County. Last year the letter
carriers of Stockton collected over 48,000 pounds of food for the
Emergency Food Bank!
The 16th annual NALC National Food Drive is the largest one-day
food drive in the nation. Letter carriers across the nation
collected 70.7 million pounds of food in the 2007 food drive, the
fourth consecutive year the total has exceeded 70 million pounds.
Last year’s figure brought the overall total for the nationwide
drives history to 836.2 million pounds of food.
Please join the National Association of Letter Carriers, the
United States Postal Service, and the Emergency Food Bank as we
together "Stamp Out Hunger" in Stockton and San Joaquin County.
