The Centennial Committee Announces Stockton Golf & Country Club's 100th Anniversary Celebration

Stockton Golf and Country Club kicked-off their 100th Anniversary Celebration with a New Years Eve Party, held at their beautiful clubhouse at the west end of Country Club Boulevard. Throughout 2014, monthly social events, golf tournaments and family activities will be held in celebration of this beautiful clubhouse and their historic significance in San Joaquin County.

Local journalist and historian Peter Ottesen, is currently writing the Centennial Celebration Commemorative History Book, featuring stories of early members, celebrity tournaments and other notable events and guests.

In addition to the 2013 New Years Eve Party the club will be holding A Summer Concert; 4th of July Weekend event; Family Day; Media Day; several significant golf events, and finishing off the yearly celebration with a Black and White Ball in December of 2014.

Significant History

Stockton Golf and Country Club was established in 1914 by a group of local citizens when there were only three golf courses in California. The clubhouse was an elegant building that sat overlooking the channel, and soon SG&CC became known for it's charm and grace. The building of the new golf and country club caused interest to spread like wildfire.

In the late 1920's, a magnificent eighteen-hole, park-style course was designed by Sam Whiting to replace the original nine-hole course. Stockton Golf & Country Club provided the community with a source of recreation and a place of social gathering. Over the years, changes and improvements continued at the country club.

In 1954, a new clubhouse was completed, providing the members with an unparalleled experience. The golf course itself has received new irrigation systems as well as a new drainage system. In the mid-1990's, all eighteen greens were rebuilt according to USGA specifications. Furthermore, Stockton Golf & Country Club was honored in 1990 by being designated as one of the golf courses to host the qualifying rounds for the US Open. Many prestigious golfers have also been hosted over the years including Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Doug Sanders, Gary Player, Lee Trevino, and Johnny Miller. In addition, the club is proud to be known as the home course for Ricky Barnes, 2002 US Amateur Champion.

Our country club has grown and matured through the years without losing its youthful exuberance. In 2003, the members approved building a brand new clubhouse that includes a state-of-the-art fitness center and member dining rooms with spectacular views of the golf course and San Joaquin River. This new clubhouse, championship golf course, sparkling pool and enthusiastic membership ensure that Stockton Golf & Country Club provides a rewarding experience. While the new clubhouse continues to redefine our standard of excellence, we celebrate our core values of family, fellowship, and service that exemplify the tradition of our club.
