More Shade, More Life: New Partnership Aims to Bring 1,000+ Trees to Stockton-Area Parks

South Stockton parks are getting ready for a greener, cooler future. San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation has announced a new partnership with Little Manila Rising to plant and maintain more than 1,000 new trees over the next three to five years in County-operated parks throughout the Stockton area. The effort will focus on improving shade, restoring tree canopy, and bringing more community activity back into local parks.

San Joaquin County neighborhood parks are getting ready for a brighter summer. San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation has been awarded a $100,000 grant through Trust for Public Land’s Central Valley Park Access and Activation Grant to launch Parks After Dark, a new pilot program designed to bring free evening activities, recreation, wellness programs, and community gatherings to select neighborhood parks in Stockton.

Music, carnival rides, dancing, food from around the world, and one of the nation’s oldest Cinco de Mayo parades are all part of this beloved Stockton tradition. Stockton is getting ready to turn up the music, fire up the carnival, and welcome one of the biggest community celebrations of the year. The 2026 El Concilio California Cinco de Mayo Multicultural Festival is returning to the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds for three full days of culture, entertainment, family fun, and community pride on Friday, May 1, Saturday, May 2, and Sunday, May 3.
