Jeff Tilton, Ed.D., candidate for San Joaquin County Superintendent of Schools, has made a pledge to take a 15-percent voluntary reduction in salary once elected to the position.
“The San Joaquin County Office of Education is going to be faced with tough budget decisions over the next two to three years. I know there are difficult decisions to be made, but we must put education first, which is why my first act as Superintendent will be to take a 15-percent voluntary reduction in pay from the current Superintendent’s salary,” said Tilton, who is currently superintendent, charter schools, New Jerusalem School District.
“I’ll ‘put my money where my mouth is’ and take a voluntary salary reduction to provide the services the students of San Joaquin County deserve. Cutting back starts at the top with the superintendent, and if need be, after I’m elected as San Joaquin County Superintendent of Schools, I will look at taking a further voluntary reduction to put education first,” Tilton continued.
An educator with nearly 30 years’ experience, Tilton has been a classroom teacher, coach, principal, and senior administrator at school districts as well as two county offices of education. He has been an adjunct faculty member at several universities in California and Oregon, and has worked for the Northwest Evaluation Association, an international educational research organization. Tilton, is the only declared candidate to have earned his doctorate degree, and to be a current superintendent of schools. A graduate of Manteca High School, CSU Stanislaus, and the University of the Pacific, Jeff lives in Stockton with his wife Shalice. They have four grown children.
