#GivingTuesday was a special day but you can donate any day to those non-profits that help improve our community. At St. Joseph's Foundation, we are proud that 100% of your donation will be applied to the funding priority you select. Our area of greatest need is our Emergency Room Expansion.
Every day, our ER sees over 232 patients, a 30% increase over just last year. This is at least twice the volume of any other facility in San Joaquin County, and twice the volume of UCSF.
Our staff and clinicians work tirelessly day and night, seven days a week, 365 days a year, to be there for our community in times of need.
Patients like 17 month old Skyler, who inhaled an almond into her lung.
The quick, life-saving efforts of St. Joseph's Emergency Room team played an integral role in Skyler's survival.
In order to treat the growing number of patients requiring emergency care in our community, we are re-purposing 8,000 ft. sq. to the current ER, with 24 new treatment areas and an updated waiting room.
The expense to add this new wing is considerable - over $8 million - but will hold tremendous benefits for our community.
While the cost of delivering high-quality care keeps rising, reimbursements are falling. Although ER volume is up, St. Joseph's continues to serve a high percentage of patients covered by Medi-Cal and Medicare, which only reimburse a portion of the costs of providing care.
