GENEALOGY WORKSHOP: TAKING YOUR GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH ON THE ROAD AT THE MARGARET K. TROKE BRANCH LIBRARY

On Saturday, September 6, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., the Margaret K. Troke Branch Library presents a genealogy workshop: Taking Your Genealogical Research on the Road.

If traveling to your ancestor's home is on your bucket list--or even on the drawing board for your next vacation--solid planning before you go is essential. Whether you dream of returning to the continent of your ancestral roots, heading back to the old neighborhoods of your grandparents, or just driving to the courthouse in the next county to locate vital records, this session will equip you with planning tools and tasks to bolster your success.

The session covers the vital need for advanced planning before embarking on a genealogical research trip. Types of possible destinations for field work will be discussed: ancestors' cemetery locations, locating and visiting old family homes, county seats for ancestors' records, archives, libraries, and on-location historical/genealogical society holdings. We'll also cover what types of preparation are needed to ensure the maximum number of goals are accomplished during the trip.

After the presentation, members of the San Joaquin Genealogical Society will be available for individual help in online research.  Feel free to bring your own laptop or use one of ours.
