In celebration of Black History Month, British historian and author Dr. David G. Styles will give a special presentation titled “The Tuskegee Airmen & Beyond: The Road to Equality,” featuring incredible stories of heroism and bravery in the face of racism.
The presentation is drawn from his newest book, which traces the story of the African-American quest for freedom and liberty from the days of the Revolutionary War to the 21st Century. It examines the men who fought for freedom and liberty, yet did not have freedom and liberty themselves.
“African-Americans” Dr. Styles said, “fought long and hard to secure equality in a world that labeled them as inferior only because of the color of their skin, segregated on the basis of race. On what grounds can that be justified, when Homo Erectus originated in the Rift Valley of Africa? What statement does that single fact place before every one of us? Surely that we are all members of only one race – the Human Race…”
Dr. Styles is an aviation-automotive historian who has published 21 books and won more than 30 international awards. He is Aviation Historian to the California State Military Museum and has lectured to audiences there as well as the Castle Air Museum in Atwater and on board the USS Hornet.
