4th Annual Lodi Tour of Tempranillo

November 15-17th, 2019

Twelve of Lodi’s top Tempranillo producers will be celebrating International Tempranillo Day during the weekend of November 15-17, 2019. This is the 4th year of this special passport weekend focused on tasting the best Tempranillos produced and grown in the Lodi Appellation. Lodi produces over 100 different varieties of wine grapes and in 2015 was selected as “Wine Region of the Year” by the Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Tempranillo is recognized world-wide as being one of the most important Spanish varieties and is gaining a foothold in the Lodi Appellation. Participants can visit any one of the participating wineries to collect a complimentary guidebook and begin their exploration of the Lodi Tour of Tempranillo. Each winery will offer special tastings of Tempranillo and some special reserve wines only available at this event. Participants will be entered in a raffle for each winery they visit. About the wine grape variety, Tempranillo :Tempranillo is often referred to as the “Cabernet” of Spain due to its structure and #1 status as the backbone of Spanish reds. It is actually the fourth most planted wine grape in the world. When young it is fresh and fruity, however with oak and age it shows serious mature qualities that make it a collector’s item in particular the Gran Reserva 5 year aged wines. Tempranillo is also fondly known by many names such as Ull de Llebre “Eye of the Hare”, Cencibel, Valdepenas and Tinta del Pais. Taste Tempranillo and you will taste the heart and soul of Spain.
