Collaborative Efforts Lead To CEO Resource Spotlight Event

Event date: 2/28/2014 4:30 PM - 7:00 PM Export event

Earlier this year, the passage of Assembly Bill 93 (AB93) eliminated the California Enterprise Zone Program in favor of a new statewide program, GEDI (Governor's Economic Development Initiative). Effective January 1, 2014, the Enterprise Program will end and GEDI will begin.

Last month, the California State Legislature passed, and Governor Brown signed into law, Assembly Bill 106 (AB106), a bill that clarifies numerous questions about the wind-down of the recently eliminated Enterprise Zone Program. AB106 extends the deadline for businesses to submit hiring tax credit voucher applications to December 31, 2014. This provision ensures businesses that hire qualified new employees through the end of 2013 will have another year to file for the hiring credit.

The San Joaquin County Enterprise Zone covers over 650 square miles, and includes every incorporated city in the County, as well as most businesses in unincorporated areas. Any business located within the area is eligible for Enterprise Zone tax credits.

The CEO Resource Spotlight event will feature Kish Rajan, Director of the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development. In 2012, Governor Brown appointed Rajan as the GO-Biz director to lead the executive team. His directive from Governor Brown is to enhance California’s job creation effort by streamlining business regulations, promoting statewide economic development and fostering greater international trade opportunities. Representatives from the California Franchise Tax Board and Board of Equalization will also participate in the panel discussion as well as several local agencies with economic incentive programs.

Working in partnership, the San Joaquin County WorkNet, San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, City of Stockton, Employee Development Department and the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce will host the event to cover further details and highlights about the new GEDI Program and the wind-down of the Enterprise Zone Program. To register for this event, please call the San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce at 209-943-6117 or email [email protected] .
