Delta College announces passing of longtime employee and trustee Valerie Stewart-Green

Delta College is deeply saddened to share that Trustee Valerie Stewart-Green, who served the College for nearly three decades first as an employee and then as a trustee, has passed away.

A resident of Tracy for approximately 28 years, Stewart-Green worked at Delta College for 22 years until her retirement in 2022.

In October of that same year, she was appointed to the Board of Trustees where for nearly two years she represented the communities of Tracy and Mountain House.

Having worked closely with the community during her time as an executive assistant to the superintendent/president of Delta College, as a trustee Stewart-Green spoke often of her desire to ensure that all community members were aware of the College’s programs and services and how those programs and services might improve their lives.

"I want to make sure that our students have the best opportunities for education and are successful, and that we do what is best for the community,” she said when first appointed to the Board.

In addition to being a longtime resident of Tracy, Stewart-Green also held a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco.

“I had the pleasure of working with Valerie at Delta in her role as an employee and as a trustee,” said Delta College Superintendent/President Dr. Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson. “She was a passionate supporter of students, especially students from underserved communities. She wanted to see all students have access to the opportunities the college offered. She also wanted to ensure employees had the support they needed to fulfill the college mission. She will be greatly missed by the campus community, and I am grateful for the dedication with which she served the District. I send my deepest condolences to her loved ones.”

“I value deeply the opportunity I had to know and work with Valerie over the last nearly 25 years,” said Board of Trustees President Dr. Charles Jennings. “Her commitment to the college’s mission was always paramount in her service to the college. Since her retirement, she did not fail to step up when her community needed her and continued to work tirelessly as a trustee on their behalf. I will miss Valerie and the many conversations we had about how best to address the needs of all in our diverse community. My heartfelt condolences go out to Valerie’s entire family.”
