DIPLO and Sage the Gemini Concert

The Associated Students of University of the Pacific will host a stop on the nationwide RECESS music and ideas tour on Friday, March 21, 2014, on the campus in Stockton and at the Stockton Arena.

RECESS, a music and ideas festival much like SXSW, but on a college campus, combines a networking event to help students find jobs, a progressive speaker panel, a business pitch competition, and a music festival featuring internationally renowned disc jockey Diplo. RECESS "inspires forward-thinking college students to become the next generation of world-changing entrepreneurs."

Indiana University students Deuce Thevenow and Jack Shannon founded RECESS to help college students overloaded with midterms and homework by providing them a platform to satisfy their entrepreneurial thirst and innovate zeal outside the classroom.

"We are excited to bring more than a spring concert this year," said Daniel Episcope, a Pacific international affairs and commerce major. "We are providing an outlet for students to network, collaborate, and launch their ideas and visions to establish their careers." While networking, speaker panel and business pitch competition are limited to Pacific students, faculty and staff, the music festival featuring Diplo is open to the public at 7:30 p.m. March 21 at the Stockton Arena.

Diplo, whose birth name is Wesley Pentz, has experiences a variety of success. As a member of the group Major Lazer, he produced hits such as "Express Yourself" and the Grammy Award-nominated "Paper Planes." Diplo has spent the past few years on the club circuit and recording chart-topping hits. Opening the show will be Bay Area-native Sage the Gemini, known for his debut singles "Gas Pedal" & "Red Nose." The music video for "Gas Pedal" with nearly 40 million views on YouTube has swept the club and radio scene.
