Fremont Elementary to Celebrate Student Creativity at Multicultural Arts Festival

Event date: 4/25/2026 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Export event

Free community event will showcase student performances, hands-on artmaking and the school’s transformation through the arts

Fremont Elementary will welcome families, students and community members for a colorful celebration of creativity, culture and student achievement during its Multicultural Arts Festival on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 2021 E. Flora St. in Stockton.

The free community event will feature hands-on art activities, student performances and appearances by local artists, offering visitors a joyful look at how the arts are helping students learn, grow and express themselves.

For Fremont Elementary, the festival is more than a day of music, art and family fun. It is also a celebration of how far the school has come.

A decade ago, Fremont Elementary was on the federal Program Improvement watch list after repeatedly missing academic benchmarks. Today, the school is telling a very different story. Through a sustained partnership with Turnaround Arts California, Fremont has embraced the arts as an important part of learning, not simply an extra activity.

That approach has helped create classrooms filled with expression, collaboration and pride. The arts have become especially meaningful for students who may face challenges in traditional classroom settings, including English Learners and students with special needs.

Parent Tera Gallegos shared how the arts have made a powerful difference for her children.

“My daughter has truly come alive through the arts,” Gallegos said. “She’s gained confidence, discipline, and a deep cultural pride that she carries with her everywhere. My son now has a path to engagement with school that he didn’t have before.”

She added that being in a school environment that values the arts has helped her children become more motivated, confident and focused students.

The festival will bring that transformation to life with performances from Fremont students and local artists, along with opportunities for families to create art together. Community members will also have the chance to see how creativity is being used to inspire students, empower teachers and engage families.

Media opportunities at the event will include interviews with Fremont Elementary Principal Ivygail Henderson, Stockton Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Michelle Rodriguez, and Turnaround Arts California Program Manager Chelsey Brunelle.

Turnaround Arts California is a nonprofit organization that provides training and resources to help educators at underserved public schools integrate the arts and creativity into learning.

The Fremont Elementary Multicultural Arts Festival is free and open to the community.
