Linden Student Abigail Coussons Named 2025 ATHENA Youth Leadership Award Recipient

The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce has announced Linden High School’s Abigail Coussons as the 2025 ATHENA Youth Leadership Award recipient, honoring her outstanding service, academic excellence, and leadership that uplifts others in her school and community.

Abigail received the surprise announcement on Thursday, October 16, during the Linden Unified School Board meeting, where she serves as Student Trustee. The special moment was shared by Judge Erin Guy Castillo, a past ATHENA Young Professional recipient, and Jane Chamberlain, a past ATHENA Leadership Award honoree.

The ATHENA Youth Leadership Award recognizes exceptional young individuals under the age of 18 who empower and amplify the voices of women and girls while creating inclusive, collaborative environments where everyone feels valued and respected.

This year marks just the second time the Greater Stockton Chamber has presented the award — and only the third time nationally — underscoring Stockton’s leadership in advancing the ATHENA mission.

A Leader Beyond Her Years

With a 4.1 GPA and a top-ten class ranking, Abigail has demonstrated the rare combination of intellect, compassion, and courage that defines a true leader. As Class President for four consecutive years and Student Trustee for Linden Unified, she has used her voice to inspire meaningful change and ensure all students are heard — even visiting every school in her district to connect directly with younger students.

Her leadership extends beyond the classroom. As a four-year member and officer of FFA (Future Farmers of America), Abigail has served as Vice President, Treasurer, and Reporter, mentoring younger members and excelling in state competitions. Her team earned first place at the 2025 FFA State Ag Sales Competition, advancing to represent California at the national level.

Whether leading as Girls’ Golf Team Captain, Spirit Commissioner, or through California Scholarship Federation service projects, Abigail continues to build bridges, strengthen school spirit, and serve her community with grace and humility.

Abigail represents the very best of young leadership—authentic, courageous, and committed to others,” said Scott McGregor, Superintendent of Linden Unified School District. “She doesn’t just talk about leadership — she lives it every single day.”

Celebrating Leadership and Service

Abigail will be honored at the 2025 ATHENA Awards Luncheon on November 20, 2025, alongside Kay G. Ruhstaller, recipient of the ATHENA Leadership Award, and Stephanie Braithwaite of Lily Pad Living / Lotus Rising Recovery Services, recipient of the ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award.

Tickets and sponsorship opportunities for the event are available through the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce at stocktonchamber.org/athena-awards.
