New Fishing Dock Reopens River Access at Westgate Landing Regional Park

Outdoor enthusiasts have a new reason to head to the Mokelumne River. A newly rebuilt fishing dock has officially opened at Westgate Landing Regional Park, restoring public access and revitalizing a popular riverfront destination for anglers, families, and nature lovers alike.

The dock, which had been closed since January 2025, was reconstructed by the Facilities Management Division of San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation, a division of the General Services Department. The new structure features a wide, accessible ramp designed to improve safety and usability for visitors of all abilities, ensuring inclusive access to the river.

Built using a modular dock system manufactured by Mod-U-Dock, the upgraded dock meets modern accessibility and safety standards for river environments. The improvements mark a significant step in bringing the park back into full use for the community.

“Access to our waterways is incredibly important to the communities we serve,” said Parks Administrator Ashika Lal. “This new dock brings Westgate Landing back online for public use and reflects the strength of our inter-departmental partnership as we reinvest in infrastructure that supports access, safety, and community use.”

Located off Highway 12 near Terminous, Westgate Landing Regional Park offers approximately half a mile of river frontage along the Mokelumne River. The park is well known for fishing, boating access, wildlife viewing, dry camping, picnic areas, and scenic views. It is open daily from 8 a.m. to sunset, with parking available for $5 cash on weekdays and $6 cash on most weekends. Camping is available by reservation only.

With the dock now reopened, Westgate Landing once again serves as an important gateway to the river, supporting outdoor recreation and strengthening the county’s connection to its natural resources.
