One Book, One San Joaquin 2013

The Stockton-San Joaquin County Public Library is proud to announce the annual community reading event – One Book, One San Joaquin. The Library encourages all members of the community to read and be a part of this special program.

The featured title for this year’s program is Tolstoy and the Purple Chair: My Year of Magical Reading by Nina Sankovitch. BookPage calls this book an “affectionate and inspiring paean to the power of books.” Copies of the book are available to check out at all SSJCPL branch libraries, and Ms. Sankovitch will speak at the Cesar Chavez Central Library as part of the culminating program on Saturday, September 28, 2013 at 6 pm.

In addition to the featured title of this year’s One Book, One San Joaquin, the Library has selected two other titles for teens and children that share similar themes with Tolstoy and the Purple Chair. Those books are Looking for Alaska by John Green for teens and After Eli by Rebecca Rupp for children.
One Book, One San Joaquin kicks off on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 2 pm at the University of the Pacific’s Janet Leigh Theatre in Stockton with a special afternoon program featuring librarian and author Nancy Pearl. Since the release of her best-selling Book Lust in 2003 and the librarian action figure modeled in her likeness, Nancy Pearl has become a rock star among readers and the tastemaker people turn to when deciding what to read next.
