San Joaquin County Courts to Celebrate 26th Annual National Adoption Day This Saturday

Event date: 11/22/2025 9:30 AM Export event

One of the most heartwarming events of the year returns to downtown Stockton this weekend. On Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., the Superior Court of California, County of San Joaquin, will host its 26th Annual Adoption Day, celebrating local families who are opening their hearts and homes to children in need.

This year’s ceremony—held on the 12th floor of the Stockton Courthouse at 180 E. Weber Avenue—will finalize adoptions for 28 children by 17 loving families, marking one of the most meaningful days on the court’s calendar. Doors open to families at 8:30 a.m., and both the public and press are invited to attend.

“There is nothing more important in this world than family.”

The proceedings will be presided over by Judges Michael Mulvihill, Gurjit Srai, and Danielle Ramirez. Judge Mulvihill will offer welcoming remarks to begin the celebration.

Reflecting on the significance of the day, Judge Mulvihill shared:

“On behalf of the San Joaquin County Superior Court, we congratulate all of the families participating in National Adoption Day… It is truly an honor and privilege for our judges and staff to preside over these proceedings. There is nothing more important in this world than family, and we thank all of the adoptive parents who have stepped forward and made a commitment to give these children their forever home.”

A Community Effort to Build Forever Families

The event is a collaborative effort supported by the San Joaquin County Human Services Agency, Wayfinder Family Services, Project Linus, Main Street Youth & Family Services, Environmental Alternatives Family Services, Triad Family Services, Family Extension Foster Care & Adoption, Aspiranet, Koinonia, and New Dimensions. Volunteers from these organizations join court staff each year to make the day special for participating children and families.

National Adoption Day is observed nationwide on the Saturday before Thanksgiving to raise awareness for the more than 108,000 children and youth in foster care waiting for permanent homes. Over 27 years, coordinated efforts across the country have helped finalize adoptions for over 90,000 children, turning one special day into a lifetime of stability and love.
