Southbound I-5 West Fremont Off-Ramp Weekend Closure

SOUTHBOUND INTERSTATE 5 AT WEST FREMONT STREET IN STOCKTON

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) will close the off-ramp from southbound Interstate 5 (I-5) to West Fremont Street for highway construction. The northbound Fremont off-ramp will remain open.

Work will begin Friday, March 21, 2014, at 11:00 p.m., and continue until Monday, March 24, 2014, at 5:00 a.m.

Detour signs are in place and motorists should expect 10 minute delays. Alternate routes should be taken whenever possible. Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will alert drivers to southbound alternate exits; Stockton Arena and special event traffic will be alerted to utilize SR-4/Crosstown Freeway East and the Center/ El Dorado streets exits.

Additional long term weekend closures of ramps will occur in the future within the construction zone.

This closure is part of the I-5 Rehabilitation Project, which is reconstructing the existing eight lanes of highway from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard/Charter Way to Country Club Boulevard in Stockton. The $54 million project, which began in May 2013 and is expected to be completed in 2015, will widen the inside shoulders from 5 feet to 10 feet; rebuild the outside shoulders and auxiliary lanes; and replace existing guard rail with a concrete median barrier.

This work is scheduled to begin as listed, but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials and construction related issues.

For the safety of workers and other motorists, please Slow for the Cone Zone.
