Reception: Saturday, November 9, 2013 4-7 pm

Christina Carlson Irvin has lived in Stockton since she was 6. She is a graduate of Lodi High, and has a BS in Nursing and a MS in Psychology from CSU, Turlock. She spent most of her 30 year Nursing Career as an Intensive Care RN at St. Joseph’s Hospital. She currently volunteers as an RN at the Virgil Gianelli Medical Clinic 3 hours a week. She is the mother of 3, stepmother of 4 and has many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She has had a lifelong love of reading, knitting and photography.

Her interest in painting started in her 20’s, she occasionally took classes in oil (Ben Day, Raul Mora) and ceramics (Joe Mariscal) as electives while pursuing her vocational education. Her interest turned to watercolor in the late 1980’s and she studied for a time with Evelyn Wright.

After she retired, her husband Karl encouraged her to resume painting and was very supportive until his death in 2010. She dedicates this show to him.

She began studying watercolor and drawing under Deanna Hunt in 2008 through the OLLIE Program at UOP. She enjoys the classes which stimulate her creativity and have greatly increased her knowledge of art. She also paints with the Tuesday group at the gallery and attends most of SAL monthly Demo’s. She shows her work and volunteers at the Goodwin Gallery.

She paints still life arrangements and from her own photos taken at home or when traveling. She does some plein air painting. She also enjoys drawing with ink and pencil. Favorite subjects are trees, flowers and lakes.

She has had entries accepted in several local art shows, with awards for “Karl’s Tulips” HM in W/C (Lathrop, 2008.) Her “Easter Still Life with Mirror” received 2nd place in W/C (and her photo entry received an HM) in SAL’s recent Fall Juried Show.
