United Way/Power of One Luncheon

The Stockton Community Council of the United Way of San Joaquin County will be hosting the 12th Annual Power of One – Women Making A Difference Luncheon.  The Luncheon will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Hilton Stockton.  Doors open at 10:30 am with numerous local non-profit organizations setup throughout the hotel to inform and educate.  A beautiful lunch will be served at noon.

Table Sponsorships begin at $500 for a table of ten, plus we offer multiple levels of sponsorship with various benefits for each level of commitment.  Individual tickets are also available for $35.00 per person.

Our Keynote speaker is Lorraine Halvorson.  When she was a little girl, she wanted to be a nurse and help people, often dressing up as a nurse with a napkin for her cap. She did indeed become a nurse when she grew up; married and had six children; and ended her nursing career with the Visiting Nurse Association.

Lorraine joined Assistance League of Stockton in 1982, being attracted by their mission of serving the needs of the community.  She was instrumental in creating the Assistance League of Stockton Thrift Shop and it is a continuing source of pride and joy to her. Throughout her 32 years of active volunteer service, she has served on most committees (chairing many of them), as well as serving as president in 1986-1987.  She has also served on the National Assistance League Committee for Resource and Development.

Lorraine is the heart and soul of Assistance League of Stockton.  Her loving personality, generosity, joyfulness and dedication inspire us all and exemplifies the power of one woman to make a difference in her community.

In addition to the keynote speaker, the Power of One Committee will be awarding its Ninth “Community Star” award to Thelma Stewart, a member of our community who has demonstrated a passion and commitment to making a difference in the lives of those most in need.

The net proceeds of this event will be donated to United Way’s Community Council projects.  Please do not hesitate to call Donna Ng at (209) 320-6206 to reserve your individual tickets or sponsorship. This will be a sold out event!
