Stockton is preparing to mark a major milestone in the city’s history.
On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, the City of Stockton will host a public ribbon cutting ceremony for its New City Hall, located at 501 W. Weber Avenue in downtown Stockton. The ceremony begins at 11 a.m. in the parking lot in front of the flag poles, and residents are invited to be part of the celebration.
The opening of the New City Hall comes exactly 100 years after Stockton’s Historic City Hall was dedicated in 1926 at 425 N. El Dorado Street. For a century, that building has stood as a familiar civic landmark and a symbol of Stockton’s resilience. Now, the City is beginning a new chapter while continuing to honor the history that helped shape the community.
The new Weber Avenue location is designed to make City services easier and more convenient for residents. Many of the services most commonly used by the public, including utility bill payments, permits, special event applications, and parking services, are located on the first floor of Building 2. The new City Council Chambers are located on the first floor of Building 1.
Mayor Christina Fugazi described the moment as one that connects Stockton’s past and future, noting that Historic City Hall will continue to serve the community while the new location represents a city government ready for what comes next.
City Manager Johnny Ford called it “a proud day for Stockton,” emphasizing that the New City Hall brings many of the services residents use most into one place and makes it easier to do business with the City.
The celebration will continue later that afternoon when the Stockton City Council holds its first meeting in the new Council Chambers at 1 p.m.
While the City moves forward at its new downtown location, Historic City Hall will remain in use. The building will continue serving Stockton by providing additional office space for the Community Services Department and the Office of Violence Prevention.
The New City Hall project was overseen by the City’s Public Works Department. Construction was completed by Roebbelen Contracting, Inc., with design by Indigo Hammond + Playle Architects.
For residents, the ribbon cutting is more than the opening of a government building. It is a chance to witness a historic transition for Stockton, one that brings services together, strengthens the downtown civic center, and celebrates a city looking ahead while respecting the legacy of the past.
