L.H. Horton Jr. Gallery presents 'Queer Voices'

Exhibition explores LGBTQ+ culture and history

Event date: 10/11/2018 - 11/2/2018 Export event

The L.H. Horton Jr .Gallery at Delta College is proud to present "Queer Voices," an art exhibition reflecting LGBTQ+ culture.

The exhibition runs the evening of Oct. 11 through Nov. 2, with admission to the Gallery free and open to the public.

An opening reception will take place Oct. 11, with the Gallery opening its doors at 5 p.m. About 6 p.m. that evening, Delta drama students will visit and present a selection from “The Laramie Project,” an upcoming stage production.

The "Queer Voices" exhibition explores LGBTQ+ culture, history, and social constructs to bring greater awareness and understanding of LGBTQ+ culture and expressions of gender identity. Selected artworks have a wide range of content – social, political and cultural in representation and perspective – to create an active dialogue to the intersectionality of LGBTQ+ identities.

Presenting high quality works of art in a variety of mediums was key to the selection process for "Queer Voices." Included are works of ceramic and quilted sculptures, paintings, digital photography, printmaking, graphic arts, comic art, and video animation. Exhibiting professional artists are primarily from the Bay Area, with one artist, Celine M. Pham, a Delta College student from Stockton.

"Queer Voices" is curated by Kirstyn Russell, professor of photography and LGBTQ+ Pride Club advisor for Delta College, and by Jan Marlese, Horton Art Gallery director.

In related news, “The Laramie Project” will be performed at the Alfred H. Muller Studio Theater at the Delta Center for the Arts from Oct. 19 to Oct. 28.
