A Century of Community: United Way of San Joaquin County Celebrates 100 Years

Event date: 9/26/2026 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM Export event

Few organizations get the opportunity to look back on an entire century of service.

This fall, United Way of San Joaquin County will do exactly that as it joins the Stockton Symphony for Unforgettable: Celebrating 100 Years of Community, a special centennial celebration on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 6 to 10 p.m. at The River Mill in French Camp.

The occasion is particularly remarkable because both organizations are celebrating century milestones. Together, United Way of San Joaquin County and the Stockton Symphony represent 200 combined years of service, music and community involvement in the region.

For United Way, the anniversary represents generations of people working together to address changing community needs throughout San Joaquin County.

Rather than making the milestone solely about the past, the centennial provides an opportunity to recognize the nonprofit organizations, volunteers, donors, businesses and community leaders who have worked together over the decades—and to consider what the next century of community service might look like.

The September celebration will reflect that history through an elegant evening featuring cocktails and appetizers, dinner, live entertainment, a silent auction, live painting and dancing.

Entertainment announced for the evening includes live artist Amy Burkman, the Koto Yuki Band, Primitivo, violinist Ava Pakiam, pianist Cole Anderson and DJ Fayette Latrice. Stockton Symphony Maestro Peter Jaffe and United Way of San Joaquin County President and CEO Kristen Birtwhistle are also expected to take part in the celebration.

The partnership between United Way and the Stockton Symphony gives the anniversary additional local significance. One organization has spent generations strengthening the community through philanthropy and nonprofit partnerships while the other has spent generations enriching it through music.

A hundred years is more than an anniversary. It represents countless individual acts of generosity, service and leadership accumulated across generations.

As United Way of San Joaquin County celebrates its past, the centennial also offers the community an opportunity to recognize something that has remained constant through a century of change: Stockton and San Joaquin County are strongest when people work together.
