Churches and community organizations from across the region are preparing to take their message of faith and service outdoors as The Encounter: Jesus in the City 2026 returns to downtown Stockton for a two-day gathering at Weber Point Events Center on October 3 and 4.
The free event is designed as a citywide outreach rather than a traditional church service. Organizers say churches, volunteers, families and community organizations will come together at Weber Point to serve residents through free food, groceries, clothing, community resources, children's activities, music, worship and prayer. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
This year's Encounter expands to two days, with Saturday, October 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., followed by a second day Sunday, October 4, from noon to 5 p.m. The first day places a special emphasis on children and families, while Sunday's gathering focuses on the next generation and continued community fellowship.
For families, Saturday promises much more than an afternoon of music. Organizers are planning free food and drinks, community resources, clothing and giveaways while supplies last, medical and community support, bounce houses, face painting, arts and crafts, games and prizes. Worship, prayer and ministry will remain at the heart of the gathering, but the range of services reflects the organizers' goal of putting faith into action by meeting practical needs as well.
Sunday shifts toward community fellowship and younger generations. Organizers say the second day will include food trucks, local businesses, music, worship, prayer and opportunities for people to connect with one another and community organizations. Any remaining free resources from Saturday will also be made available.
The Encounter's organizers describe the event as an effort to bring people together through faith, hope, love and unity, with churches and ministries moving beyond their individual congregations to serve the larger community.
