‘Eyes of Freedom’ memorial coming to Delta College

Powerful exhibit honors those who fought and died

There’s a reason they call this traveling memorial the “Eyes of Freedom,” says John Ervin, manager of the Veterans Resource Center at San Joaquin Delta College.

The life-sized portraits of 23 members of the military who died in Operation Iraqi Freedom seem almost to be communicating with those who come to pay tribute.

“Their eyes draw you to them,” Ervin said. “Seeing their boots and dog tags is powerful, too.”

Delta College, where about 300 student veterans are enrolled, will host the exhibit next week. The public is invited.
