Pacific Students Bring New Life to Art in “(Re) Purpose” Exhibition at Reynolds Gallery

Event date: 10/21/2025 Export event

Opening October 21 and running through November 21, the show features an opening reception and artist talk on October 23 from 6–8 p.m. — a perfect evening to meet the talented student curators and get an inside look at the creative process.

A Celebration of Vision and Discovery

Four Pacific students from art, design, and history programs spent months exploring more than 2,000 works from the university’s permanent collection to uncover a shared theme: our search for meaning. From dreaming and learning to challenging, grieving, and creating, the selected pieces reflect the universal journey of purpose — and the role art plays in helping us see the world differently.

The exhibit features over 30 works, including pieces by legends like Norman Rockwell, Salvador Dalí, František Burant, sculptors Nathan Oliveira and Philip Augurson, and rarely seen paintings from the university’s archives. Adding a personal touch, student curators Jhih-Ci Wang and Mikayla Henry contribute their own original artworks, while Amy Hagler introduces an interactive element and Rosalyn Ung designed the show’s captivating visuals.

Where Art and Imagination Meet

“The question of purpose is one that artists return to again and again,” said gallery curator Lisa Cooperman. “This student-led exhibition is a reminder that art isn’t just something we look at — it’s something we feel, question, and carry with us.”

Visitors can expect an immersive and uplifting experience that blends classic works with contemporary voices, showing how art — old and new — continues to spark emotion, reflection, and connection.
