Stockton Cargo SC Fall to California Storm, Ending 17-Match Regular Season Unbeaten Streak

Stockton Cargo SC suffered its first regular season loss since 2024 on Wednesday night, falling 2-0 to California Storm SC in a hard-fought USL W League matchup.

The loss marked the Cargo’s first regular season defeat since June 23, 2024, ending an impressive 17-match unbeaten streak in regular season league play. With the result, Stockton moves to 2-1-2 on the season.

Despite the final score, the Cargo controlled much of the possession in the first half and created several dangerous scoring opportunities. However, California Storm struck first in the 36th minute when Molly Silva fired a shot into the upper right-hand corner to give the Storm a 1-0 lead.

Stockton nearly responded before halftime when Ava Coverdale found space inside the penalty box and sent a shot toward goal, but her attempt hit the right post, denying the Cargo an equalizer.

The second half brought a back-and-forth battle as Stockton continued to push forward in search of the tying goal. Alexandra Rios came close midway through the half, but her shot bounced off the crossbar, keeping the Cargo off the scoreboard.

As Stockton pressed higher late in the match, California Storm took advantage of a counterattack. In the 84th minute, Samantha Mac Niven secured a long pass and slipped a shot past Cargo goalkeeper Braidlynn Mott to seal the 2-0 victory.

Mott finished the night with two saves for Stockton, while the Cargo placed five shots on goal.

Although the result snapped a long regular season unbeaten run, the Cargo showed fight throughout the match and continued to generate quality chances against a strong California Storm side.

Stockton Cargo SC will look to bounce back at home on Wednesday, June 10, at 7 p.m. when they host Monterey Bay FC for the club’s first-ever “Education Night” game. The match, presented by California Resources Corporation/Carbon TerraVault, will feature educational activities throughout the evening.
