Thanksgiving Hope Arrives Early: Emergency Food Bank Prepares to Lift Spirits Across Stockton

Event date: 11/25/2025 8:00 AM Export event

In a season built on gratitude, community, and coming together, the Emergency Food Bank of Stockton is once again stepping up to ensure local families don’t just get by this Thanksgiving—they get to celebrate it.

On Tuesday, November 25, the Emergency Food Bank will host its annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at the San Joaquin County Fairgrounds, transforming the historic venue into a hub of hope, compassion, and connection. Gates open bright and early at 6:00 a.m., with distribution beginning at 8:00 a.m. and continuing until supplies run out.

This year’s event is poised to be one of the largest yet. With demand for food assistance rising sharply across the county, the Food Bank anticipates giving away up to 2,500 Thanksgiving meal boxes, each complete with a turkey and all the comforting fixings that bring families around the table.

A Community Answering the Call

Leonard Hansen, President and CEO of the Emergency Food Bank, shared that the need has grown more urgent than ever:

We have seen a 35% increase in need at the Emergency Food Bank. The rising demand underscores how critical this event is for families who may otherwise go without a holiday meal. We are deeply grateful for the community’s unwavering support and for coming together to help their neighbors during this season of gratitude.

Behind the scenes, dozens of volunteers and generous supporters are working tirelessly to bring this massive distribution to life—from sorting ingredients and assembling meal boxes to guiding cars through the drive-through lanes. It’s a true Stockton effort, powered by kindness.

A Safe, Smooth, Drive-Through Experience

To make the process efficient and accessible for all, this year’s giveaway will follow a drive-through format. Families are encouraged to arrive early, as boxes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

For many, this event provides more than just food—it offers reassurance, dignity, and the chance to gather with loved ones over a warm meal during a holiday that can feel especially difficult for those facing financial hardship.
