Tigers Open Spring Season At Stanford

The Pacific men's tennis team opens the 2013-14 Spring season with a dual match at No. 41 Stanford on Tuesday, Jan. 13. The match begins at 1:30 p.m. at the Taube Tennis Center on the Stanford campus.

Though the Fall season ended on Nov. 3 with the Pacific Tigers Invitational, the team has been quite busy. Over the Holiday Break, Daniel Alameh won the 2013 Professionals Michael Johnson & Co WA State Grasscourt Championships in Perth Australia. Daniel defeated Rhys Johnson (currently #54 in the ITA Rankings for Vanderbilt) 6-4, 6-3. Accordingly, Daniel and Pacific teammate Denis Stolyarov won the doubles championships as well.

Head Coach Ryan Redondo was named the 2013 USTA Team Northern California Coach of the Year. Redondo was named the 2013 Big West Coach of the Year, the 2013 ITA Regional Coach of the Year, and the 2013 Northern California Coach of the Year.  Furthermore, with Coach Redondo's efforts within the community representing Pacific and bringing tennis to the city of Stockton and the Pacific campus through tournaments and charity events, USTA NorCal has awarded Pacific as the 2013 Membership Organization of the Year.

"I am really excited for the start of the Spring season," said Redondo. "The team is excited, highly motivated, and are having a lot of fun working together as a unit.  With the addition of the WCC schedule, we have some great WCC teams at home this year, as well as a handful of other top nationally ranked teams which will bring a level of tennis to Stockton that hasn't been seen before collegiately. Starting the season off against Stanford is exactly what we want as it will test us early and show us exactly where we need to continue developing and fine tuning the athletes games. In addition, we have two tough Big West teams at home at the end of the month."
