Two Coaches and Three Players Honored with Post Season All-Star Nods

Ryan Christenson has been named 2014 All-Star Manager

As announced by the California League, Ryan Christenson and John Wasdin have been named as All-Star Manager and Coach, respectively, while first baseman Matt Olson, third baseman Renato Nunez, and pitcher Seth Streich, have all been named Post Season All-Stars.

The Ports currently hold a 77-53 record during the first season with the team for both Manager Christenson and Pitching Coach Wasdin, compared to Stockton’s overall 69-71 record in 2013. With only ten games left in regular season, the Ports look to claim the second-half division title, which would take them to their first post season since 2011.

First baseman Matt Olson has been a strong power-hitter for the Ports since early in the season. Olson, the A’s number two prospect, currently has 36 home runs on the year, and is on pace to break Chris Carter’s record of 39 home runs for the Ports during the 2008 season.

Renato Nunez, the Ports’ third baseman, is currently batting .287 with 29 home runs. Earlier this season, Nunez, the Athletics’ third top prospect, was named California League Player of the Week and represented Venezuela at the All-Star Futures Game.

Streich, a right-handed starter with the Ports, is currently leading the team in ERA (3.16), wins (9), and strikeouts (116), although a shoulder injury has sidelined him since late July. Streich was also named to the California League All-Star Team earlier this season.

The Ports will return to Banner Island Ballpark on Tuesday, August 26th in their last regular season homestand. Tickets are available at stocktonports.com, by calling 209-644-1900, or by visiting the Ports’ Box Office.
