Stockton residents now have a unique chance to leave a lasting mark on their city. The City of Stockton is officially accepting public nominations to name its newest neighborhood park, a nearly five-acre green space in the Cannery Park subdivision near PFC Jesse Mizener Street and the Highway 99 frontage.

Located at 3993 Stapleton Drive, the 4.96-acre park is nearing completion and will soon become a recreational anchor for families in southeast Stockton. But first, the City wants the community’s help in choosing a meaningful and memorable name.

Nominations Open Through January 20

The nomination period runs through Tuesday, January 20, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. Community members can submit ideas using an online form or a printable application available at the City’s website, StocktonCA.gov/Parks.

Kris Farro, Community Services Director, encourages residents to think creatively and thoughtfully.

“Names may be recommended that honor outstanding individuals who are recognized or remembered for their service to the Stockton community for over 25 years, or can reflect something about the geographic, topographic, or historical significance of the area,” Farro said.

How the Naming Process Works

Submitted names will be reviewed by the City’s Naming Committee, a group made up of representatives from:

  • Stockton Arts Commission

  • Parks and Recreation Commission

  • Planning Commission

  • Cultural Heritage Board

  • Public Works Department

  • Community Services Department

This committee will evaluate nominations and forward recommendations to the Stockton City Council for final approval.

Even if a nomination isn’t selected for this park, the City notes that all submissions will be kept on file for up to three years, allowing previously suggested names to be considered for future parks or public facilities.

A Community-Supported Park

The new Cannery Park neighborhood park is being funded through the Stockton Consolidated Landscape Maintenance Assessment District, which supports the upkeep and maintenance of parks throughout the city.

How to Participate

Residents can learn more or get a copy of the application by visiting StocktonCA.gov/Parks, calling the Community Services Department at (209) 937-8206, or emailing [email protected].
