Stockton will soon host one of America’s most legendary activists. Dolores Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers and a lifelong champion for social justice, will speak at San Joaquin Delta College on Thursday, Sept. 25, at 12 p.m.
The free community event, titled “Voices of Change: Dolores Huerta Speaks to the Next Generation,” will take place at Atherton Auditorium on the Stockton campus. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. A daily parking permit is required.
Huerta, now in her mid-90s, continues to inspire new generations with her fight for workers’ rights, gender equality, and civic engagement. She is best known for rallying alongside César Chávez during the farmworker movement of the 1960s, but her influence extends far beyond. Her famous phrase “Sí, se puede!” became a rallying cry for movements across the globe.
For Stockton, this is also a homecoming. Huerta attended Delta College when it was still known as Stockton College and last spoke on campus in 2018. Organizers say her return carries special meaning for the community.
“This event will challenge and inspire our students, faculty, staff, and community members to embrace activism, civic engagement, and unity as tools for building a more just and equitable future,” said Daniel Fernandez, Delta College counselor and professor.
The talk is part of Delta’s Latine History Month celebration, which runs throughout September with events honoring heritage, amplifying diverse voices, and fostering community.
