Stockton March for Science to launch the Earth Day Festival

Sunday, April 22 10-11 a.m. Victory Park

Give a shout out to science, technology, engineering and math.  Show your support for Mother Earth.

As part of the 30th Annual Earth Day Festival, Stockton will celebrate its second March for Science on Sunday morning, April 22 at Victory Park.  The March for Science will last one hour, beginning at 10 a.m. from the Earth Day Festival stage on the west side of park. Congressman Jerry McNerney will join us for the welcome. High school science teacher Brandon Piasecki will do an encore performance of his “Periodical Table Rap” and the drum line from Cesar Chavez High School will be featured.

Bring your own signs or make one that morning.  There will be supplies on hand beginning at 9:30 a.m.

We did the math … and we need 1034 people to complete the loop around Victory Park.  Come out and be a link in this human chain reaction.

Before we start, we will be asking participants to embrace technology and use their cell phones to set an alarm for 10:34 a.m. and turn up the volume. We will leave the starting point in waves, beginning at 10:20, encouraging marchers to spread out on the sidewalk around Victory Park. At precisely 10:34 a.m. we will stop in place, stretch out and do a "Chain Reaction” (similar to a “wave” at a ball game).

In 2017, the marchers made it about half way around the perimeter. The goal this year is to double that number and get enough people to stretch the distance.

After the march, the Earth Day Festival will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring more than 65 environmental and science-related booths from local schools, government  and nonprofit groups. There will be healthy food, outstanding entertainment, and educational crafts and activities.  This is a free, family-friendly event.
