A career can feel like an abstract idea until a student meets someone who does the work. A conversation with an employer, a chance to see a workplace or a mentor willing to answer questions can help turn a classroom interest into a possible future.
Those connections are the focus of the Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce's Business Education Alliance Fall Lunch Symposium on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.
The free gathering runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Heritage Dining and Provisions, 4343 N. Ashley Lane in Stockton.
Connecting Learning With Opportunity
The symposium will examine how career technical education is preparing Stockton Unified School District students for a workforce that calls for multiple skills. Organizers also plan to explore ways businesses can work with the district and Chamber through mentorship, career experiences and industry partnerships.
For local employers, that is an invitation to think about a role that begins before a job opening. Helping a young person understand a field can start with sharing knowledge: what a workday involves, which skills matter and how someone gets started.
For educators, direct relationships with employers can make conversations about careers more concrete. Students benefit when the connection between what they are learning and where it might lead is easier to see.
A Partnership With Local Roots
The Business Education Alliance describes itself as a public-private partnership involving Chamber members, Stockton Unified and other academic institutions in San Joaquin County.
Its focus on the relationship between education and industry gives the lunch gathering a broader community purpose. The subject is not only what students might do after graduation, but how people already working in Stockton can help them explore those possibilities.
A useful partnership needs room for questions on both sides. What experiences would help a student understand an occupation? What can a business realistically offer? How can an introduction lead to an ongoing relationship rather than a single encounter?
The October 27 gathering offers a place to begin those conversations with local partners.

Stockton's future workforce is already learning in local classrooms. Bringing employers into the conversation can help students see more clearly where that learning might take them.
