There’s a new star lighting up the pitch in Stockton — and her name is Vanessa Penuna. The dynamic midfielder for Stockton Cargo SC has been named to the USL W League Team of the Month for June, making her the second Cargo player this season to receive this prestigious recognition.
Penuna has been nothing short of sensational for the Cargo in 2025, racking up six goals and two assists on the season and playing a pivotal role in securing the USL W NorCal Division title. This honor marks a major milestone as she becomes just the third player in club history to earn a Team of the Month nod.
Hailing from Fresno, Penuna brings a wealth of international experience to Stockton’s squad, with time spent playing for Argentina’s Boca Juniors and Mexico’s Toluca in Liga MX Femenil. That experience shined brightest when it mattered most — scoring the division-clinching goal and netting a clutch 88th-minute strike in the Western Conference Semifinal against Santa Clarita, sparking the team’s dramatic comeback victory.
With Penuna’s skill and leadership helping drive the team forward, Stockton Cargo SC wrapped up the 2025 season with an impressive 11-1-2 record, going undefeated in regular-season play, capturing the NorCal Division Championship, and pushing all the way to the Western Conference Final in the USL W Playoffs presented by VensureHR.
